How to Look After Curly Hair in Summer

How to Look After Curly Hair in Summer

Summer changes things.

Your plans change. Your wardrobe changes. Your mood changes. And, more often than not, your hair changes too.

For curly, wavy and textured hair, summer can be brilliant and slightly chaotic in equal measure. Sun, sea, sweat, humidity, chlorine, salt water, late nights, early swims, more washing, less routine.

Some days your curls feel bigger, freer and somehow better than ever. Other days, they can feel dry, unpredictable or like they have fully detached from your original intentions.

That is part of it.

At UNTAMEABLE, we do not believe summer hair needs to be forced into place. It just needs the right support.

Here are a few simple ways to keep your curls feeling good when the weather warms up.

1. Think moisture first

Summer has a habit of drying curls out.

Sun, sea air and chlorine can all leave hair feeling like it needs a little more softness than usual. After a beach day, a swim or hours outside, start there.

A bit of water and a small amount of nourishing curl cream worked through the hair can help bring everything back to life.

Nothing heavy. Nothing complicated. Just enough to help your hair feel like itself again.

2. Let your texture move

Not every curl needs to fall perfectly into place.

A bit more volume, a little frizz, some movement from the wind or sea air. That is not failure. That is summer.

Work with your texture instead of trying to outsmart it. Refresh when you need to, scrunch things back into shape and let your hair settle where it wants to.

Some of the best hair days look like you have actually lived in them.

3. Show your hair a little kindness after swimming

Salt water and chlorine can be great for memories, but not always for moisture.

If you can, rinse your hair after swimming. Then work a little curl cream through the mid-lengths and ends to help bring softness back in.

Think nourishment, not perfection.

4. Keep it simple

Summer rarely leaves much room for complicated routines.

When you are travelling, swimming, staying out late or packing light, your haircare should feel easy.

Rub a small amount of curl cream between your hands and work it through your hair evenly. No mirror required.

Scrunch it in. Shake it out. Pull it back, push it forward, run your hands through it like you are giving an affectionate dog a head rub.

The point is not precision.

It is hair that feels soft, supported and ready to go wherever you are.

5. Do not apologise for wild hair

Wind happens. Salt happens. Humidity definitely happens.

Your hair may get bigger, softer, messier or wilder.

Good.

That does not mean it has gone wrong. It means it has been somewhere.

At UNTAMEABLE, we are here for curls that move, shift, expand and live a little.

Because better hair is not about perfection.

It is about hair that feels healthy, nourished and entirely your own.

Better hair. Better stories.
